Working with DMML
-
1: Earn higher teacher rates than other lesson companies.
2: Have year-round income, even during the summer months. Students must take four (4) summer lessons within an 8-9 week window to retain their designated lesson time come Fall.
3: Get paid even when a student cancels. Teachers are encouraged but not required to reschedule lessons.
4: Receive the monthly lesson rate when school-wide holiday breaks occur. Teachers still get paid during Thanksgiving, winter, and a floating Spring Break week.
5: Let DMML handle payments so you can find and/or teach more lessons with your time! Collecting payment can often be difficult for an independent teacher, even when using an invoicing service. Let DMML collect from families and manage any payment conflicts! Payment is made weekly or bi-weekly, depending on teacher preference.
6: Enjoy the flexibility of teaching from the teacher’s home studio, a student’s home, a teacher's private lesson space in a professional studio; or a mix of all three.
-
1: Put a teacher profile on our website for you to share. This will save you the hassle of creating and maintaining website content and costly domains. You can put a QR code or link to your website on a business card or social media.
2: Find students. While teachers are encouraged to recruit students, DMML can help fill open roster times, maximizing your earnings potential.
3: Manage student or family policy issues for you. Let us know what the problem is, or refer them to the contact page on the DMML website, and we will resolve it.
4: Help you manage recitals. While teachers with over ten students are responsible for their recitals. DMML will give each teacher $75 per 10 students towards a teacher-held recital. For teachers with fewer than ten students, DMML will provide a location and time in an agreed-upon area for a recital that will be held with other teachers and students.
5: Provide a W-9 tax form annually. As a 1099 worker, this makes tax season much more manageable for private teachers!

Working out a percentage-based agreement, such as a church for the use of a small space, is a great option for teachers who prefer not to teach in their own homes or their students' homes. Church affiliation of the teacher or student is not required, and it should be explained to the student that the location is being used simply because it is the best location to make in-person lessons possible.
A typical percentage-based rate to use a space is 12%, but anywhere between 10-15% is acceptable. This percentage should be based on your teaching rate, NOT the rate for DMML. For example, if three students take 1-hour lessons, you are being paid $305/month for each student by DMML, then, you would pay ~12% of $915, around $110 for the month for the rented space. If you partner with DMML and find a space that will charge a percentage fee of approximately 12%, then you, the teacher, will retain around $255 of the $340. This is often the best option for teachers who are great at scheduling students back-to-back. This allows you to fit more students in the day with no drive time, gas savings, and less wear and tear on your vehicle, and the space you rent will be tax deductible!

Regardless of teaching experience, if you find a student to bring onto your roster through DMML, that student will be paid the highest teacher rate offered through DMML for that student. This can be found in “teachers with 2+ years experience”.
DMML will collect payment and pay a teacher weekly or bi-weekly, depending on preference for any student the teacher brings to DMML. In this scenario, the lesson rate of DMML is charged $175 for 30 min, $260 for 45 min, $340 for 60 min. The teacher retains $145 for 30-minute lessons, $225 for 45-minute lessons, and $300 for 60-minute lessons. If there are payment issues, the teacher is still paid. These may be issues with bounced checks, canceled credit cards, delays in payment, etc. Another benefit of having a DMML partnership is policy reinforcement. As students pay for your time slot just as much as they pay for your expertise, teachers are always paid, even when cancellations occur. This also sets you up to receive a W-9, making tax season as a private teacher much easier!

If DMML finds students for the teacher, those students are at the DMML rate. This is $175 for weekly lessons for 30 minutes, $260 for 45 minutes, and $340 for 60 minutes. Rates have slight differences in cost per minute to encourage longer lessons. Teacher rates can be found on the website; pay increases happen twice within the first nine months. If a student takes a break from lessons but then requests a space back on the roster, the teacher will be paid at the previous rate with that student. In other words, the teacher rate does not reset for a student who starts back up with the same teacher.
